Who is ShareBuilder?
ShareBuilder is an online brokerage designed for long-term investing for both beginner and experienced investors. In November 2007, ING DIRECT acquired ShareBuilder as a way to add cost-effective, simple investment options to ING DIRECT’s offerings. With a ShareBuilder account, you have access to features and tools to help you invest your money in a way that is best for you.
Do I have to transfer my account(s) to ShareBuilder?
In order to continue managing your investments online, you must complete the online transfer process to ShareBuilder. Once converted, you’ll be able to manage your accounts using ShareBuilder’s enhanced investment services and increased website functionality. If you choose not to transfer your account(s), you’ll no longer be able to view your account online or make any additional purchase transactions.
How do I transfer my account(s) to ShareBuilder?
It’s easy. When you log in to your accounts at ingdirect.com, you will be invited to complete a simple online process to transfer your account(s) to ShareBuilder. Once you complete the online account transfer process, you’ll automatically be linked to set up your ShareBuilder login access. The information from your current Orange Investment Account(s) will be used to make this setup even easier. Once these steps are completed, your mutual fund investments will transfer over to your new ShareBuilder account(s) in 1-2 business days.
Do I need to create a ShareBuilder account first?
No, as long as you accept the invitation and use the online account setup process, there is no need to create a new ShareBuilder account before you start. Your account(s) will be created as part of the online transfer process.
Are there any added benefits of transferring my account?
ShareBuilder is able to provide more services and enhanced website functionality. Some of these added benefits include the ability to manage your automatic investment plan online, access to seven new ING mutual funds exclusive to ShareBuilder as well as stocks and ETFs, the ability to download your account transactions and much more.
Will my Automatic Investment Plan transfer to ShareBuilder?
ShareBuilder has a greatly enhanced Automatic Investment Plan that offers more customization as well as an easy to use online setup. You’ll be able to deposit funds into the account without first having to select an investment to purchase, and you can manage it online whenever you want. As part of the transfer process, your current Orange Investment Account automatic investment plan(s) will be transferred to ShareBuilder, and you’ll have an opportunity to confirm or modify your plan before it takes effect. Once you confirm your plan, you’ll have an option to switch it off and adjust it later if you wish.
Can I still access my account through ingdirect.com?
After you transfer your account(s) to ShareBuilder, you’ll be able to access your ShareBuilder account(s) from the ING DIRECT website the same way you access your Orange Investment Accounts today. Additionally, you’ll create a ShareBuilder username and password as part of the transfer process, which you can use to access your accounts directly at the ShareBuilder site.
Will my account appear on my ING DIRECT statement?
Once you transfer your account(s) to ShareBuilder; your Orange Investment Account(s) will
no longer appear on your ING DIRECT statement. However, any statement created
before you transferred your accounts will still be available on the ING DIRECT site.
Each month ShareBuilder creates an online account statement for each account you
own, which you can access on the ShareBuilder site.

As part of the account transfer, you’ll be required to create a ShareBuilder username and password, which you can use to access your accounts directly at the ShareBuilder site. Or, you can continue to go through the ingdirect.com as a way of accessing your ShareBuilder account(s).
Investing Costs & Minimums
Are there minimum investment requirements?
While there is no minimum investment requirement to buy stocks and exchange-traded funds through ShareBuilder, your investment must be more than the commission for each trade. Investment minimums for mutual funds are typically in place up until you meet the funds initial investment minimum which is defined in the fund’s prospectus.
Funding Your Account
How can I deposit money into my ShareBuilder account?
You can deposit money into your account several ways for free. The simplest and quickest is to set up an electronic funds deposit from your checking or savings account, including the Orange Savings Account and Electric Orange. You can make a one time or recurring electronic deposits. Other ways to fund your ShareBuilder account include direct deposit of your paycheck, mailing a check, or wiring in funds.
How do I withdraw money from my ShareBuilder account?
You can withdraw funds from your ShareBuilder account by one of three ways. The easiest and quickest way is to request a free electronic funds withdrawal from your ShareBuilder account to your checking or savings account, including the Orange Savings Account and Electric Orange. Other options include requesting a check or wiring funds out, both of which include a charge to process.
How is my cash invested after I make a deposit or redeem shares?
Cash in a ShareBuilder account is held in the ShareBuilder RBB Money Market Portfolio (BDMXX) until it is either invested or withdrawn from the account. All customer deposits are "swept" in to the money market fund on a daily basis. Funds to cover purchases and proceeds from sale transactions are transferred automatically from/to the money market fund on the settlement date, 1 business day after the trade date for mutual funds.

How does ShareBuilder's Automatic Investment Plan work?
The ShareBuilder Automatic Investment Plan is simple and easy to use. The plan allows you to invest whole dollar amounts in mutual funds and stocks on a recurring schedule. And when it comes to funding your plan, you have the ability to fund your plan either directly from your bank account or from cash deposits that you have made beforehand.
How do I set up an Automatic Investment Plan?
Setting up the ShareBuilder Automatic Investment Plan is as easy as 1-2-3. First, select the mutual funds or stocks in which you want to invest and the amount you want to invest in each fund. Next, select a recurring schedule (weekly, twice a month, or monthly) or a more flexible one that is based on when you deposit funds into your account. Lastly, determine how you want to fund your plan, either automatically from a checking or savings account when your plan invests or your current cash balance.
After the plan is set up, you can individually edit your investments, schedule and funding methods without going through all three steps.
How do I determine the status of my order?
Orders for your investments in the Automatic Investment Plan are created on Mondays starting at 5:00pm (ET) and are processed mid-morning on Tuesdays. To view the status of your orders on the ShareBuilder website, click on the Trade tab and then select the Order Status link that is located in the navigation just below the Trade tab.
How do I view my trade confirmations?
To access your trade confirmations on the ShareBuilder website, you will need to click on the Accounts tab and then select the Records & Statements link that is located in the navigation just below the Accounts tab. From there, you click on the Trade Confirmations tab which is located within the body of the Records & Statements page.

Will I still receive trade confirmations or account statements by mail?
For each individual trade or execution of your automatic investment plan, you’ll receive an email from ShareBuilder notifying you that your Trade Confirmation is available online. Within the first few days of each month, ShareBuilder will send you an email letting you know that your account statement is available online. ShareBuilder does not send out trade confirmations or account statements through U.S. mail.
Will I still receive shareholder communications (e.g., prospectus, annual/semi-annual reports) by mail?
When you transfer your Orange Investment Account(s) to ShareBuilder you’ll be enrolled to receive your shareholder communications electronically. Notification will be sent to you via email when any new shareholder communications are available and you’ll be provided with instructions and links on how to access. The ShareBuilder website does allow you to update your delivery preferences
so that you can receive these communications by mail.
Will my account appear on my ING DIRECT eStatement?
Once you transfer your account(s) to ShareBuilder your Orange Investment Account(s)
will no longer appear on your ING DIRECT statements. However, any statement
created before you transferred your accounts will still be available on the ING DIRECT
site. Each month ShareBuilder creates an online account statement for each account
you own, which you can access on the ShareBuilder site.
